Convert Your Statements

Conversion Overview

At this point, you have installed software and downloaded a bank account statement or credit card statement to convert. The next step is to convert your statement into QuickBooks format. It's quick and easy to do.

  • Open the downloaded statement file in Excel
  • Run the converter

This is a task that you will do for each statement, i.e monthly.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Navigate to the folder to where you saved your credit card statement (i.e. My Credit Card Statements)
  2. Double-click the downloaded statement (.CSV) file. This will start Microsoft Excel and open the statement.

    Alternate method: If clicking the file does not automatically start Excel, start Excel and select FILE > OPEN... and then navigate to your statements folder. In the dialog box, change the option Files of type: to Text files. Click the .CSV file to select it, then click the OPEN button, like this:

    In Excel 2010: If you see this: Protected view warning, click Enable Editing

  4. From the Excel menu bar, select Convert to QB (in Excel 2010+, select Add-Ins and then Convert to QB)

  6. Select the converter to use (i.e. XXX_to_QB (where "XXX" is the name of the credit card)
  7. Select a converter

As soon you you click the converter to use, the conversion starts and, within just a second or two, the converter will read your statement and create a file for you to import into QuickBooks. You should see a confirmation message, like this:

What to do next

Your statement data is now in the proper format for importing into Quickbooks. The final step is to import it into QuickBooks. And, it's quick and easy to do.
